CTrain & Transit

The Green Line and Southeast Transit

Southeast Calgary has no CTrain yet. BRT Route 302 runs from Seton through Mahogany, Auburn Bay, Copperfield and McKenzie Towne to downtown, with peak express buses (117, 131, 151) and the Red Line's Somerset–Bridlewood and Shawnessy stations 6.5 to 10 km to the west.

The Green Line LRT is now under construction from Shepard, near 126 Avenue SE and 48 Street SE, to downtown, and the City says it opens in 2031. Shepard station is about 2 km from McKenzie Towne's centre and 3.5 km from Copperfield's. Stations farther south at Prestwick, McKenzie Towne, Auburn Bay/Mahogany, the South Health Campus and Seton appear in the City's station data with no construction stage, so they are not part of the current project.

What to watch for in Southeast Calgary

  • Don't pay for a train that isn't coming yet: the funded Green Line ends at Shepard. Stations in McKenzie Towne, Auburn Bay/Mahogany and Seton have no construction stage or date.
  • Car dependence: sample condo addresses score 23 on Walk Score in Copperfield, 24 in Cranston and 32 in Seton. McKenzie Towne (72) and Auburn Bay (59) do better.
  • New supply: the City lists Seton and Mahogany as developing communities, and every Seton condo unit was built since 2016, so new buildings keep competing with resales.
  • Newer buildings: most units in Seton, Mahogany, Auburn Bay, Cranston and Copperfield were built since 2010, so many are still inside Alberta's mandatory new home warranty (five years for the building envelope, ten for structure). Ask for the warranty documents and expiry dates.
  • Two sets of fees: some southeast communities have a residents' association with its own annual fee, separate from condo fees. Ask for both before you firm up.
