The Green Line LRT and Calgary Condos
As of October 2026, the first phase of Calgary's Green Line is a roughly 17-kilometre, 11-station line from Shepard in the southeast to a new street-level station on 10 Avenue S in the Beltline. The southeast section has been under construction since 2025 and is targeted to open in 2031; no construction date has been set for the downtown piece, and the north and Seton extensions are not funded. Buy a condo for the transit that exists today, and treat the Green Line as a future bonus.

| Phase 1 route | Shepard (southeast) to a new station on 10 Avenue S near 1–2 Street SW, in the Beltline |
| Length and stations | About 17 km and 11 stations, plus 3 park-and-rides and a maintenance facility at Shepard (City of Calgary, October 13, 2026) |

Phase 1 stations and the condo areas they serve
From south to north, the City lists these Phase 1 stations (the exact site of the 10 Avenue station is still to be set):
- Shepard (near 130 Avenue SE; park-and-ride and the maintenance facility)
- Douglas Glen
- Quarry Park
- South Hill
- Ogden
- Lynnwood/Millican
- Highfield
- 26 Avenue SE
- Ramsay/Inglewood
- Event Centre / Grand Central (Victoria Park)
- 10 Avenue S, near 1–2 Street SW (Beltline)
Condo areas it serves: the inner-city end of the line reaches the Beltline along 10 Avenue S, Victoria Park around the new event centre, and Inglewood and Ramsay. Further out, it serves established southeast communities such as Ogden, Millican and Lynnwood, plus Quarry Park and Douglasdale. The Beltline terminus is about a five-minute walk north to the 1 Street SW Red and Blue Line station, where riders transfer to the existing CTrain lines.

How the plan changed, 2017 to 2026
- 2017: Council approved a first stage from 16 Avenue N to Shepard and a long-term 46-km vision from Seton to 160 Avenue N.
- 2020–2021: A revised first phase, with a deep downtown tunnel to Eau Claire, won provincial and federal funding.
- July 30, 2024: To stay on budget, council shortened Phase 1 to run from Eau Claire to Lynnwood/Millican, dropping five southeast stations; the budget rose to $6.248 billion.
- September 2024: The province withdrew its funding over the downtown tunnel, and on September 17 council voted 10–5 to wind the project down.
- December 13, 2024: The province released an AECOM-led alternative: Shepard to Victoria Park, then elevated through downtown on 10 Avenue S and 2 Street SW.
- January 28, 2025: Council accepted the provincial plan, started the southeast segment and ordered a study of the elevated downtown route. Ottawa approved the revised business case in March 2025, and construction began at Shepard in June 2025.
- September 2026: After the elevated options came in hundreds of millions to about $1 billion over budget, a committee (September 8) and then council (September 22) chose a street-level route on 10 Avenue S instead. The surface route has the lowest ridership forecast of the three options, about 41,000 trips a day.
- October 13, 2026: The City awarded the contract for the Bow River package — the Ogden Road, Bow River and Deerfoot Trail bridges.
What the Green Line won't serve (for now)
- The downtown core, East Village, Chinatown and Eau Claire get no Green Line station in Phase 1. The line ends in the Beltline, short of 7 Avenue.
- The north — Centre Street N and 16 Avenue N to 160 Avenue N — has no construction funding.
- Seton and the far southeast beyond Shepard have no construction funding.
The City says further work will proceed as funding becomes available. A report on planning budgets for the north and south extensions is due at Executive Committee on November 3, 2026.
What it means for condo buyers
- Price in today's transit. The southeast stations are targeted for 2031, and the downtown station has no construction date. Value a condo on the transit, walkability and amenities it has now.
- Expect construction. Building the guideways, bridges and stations means road changes and noise near the line for several years. The City publishes where work is happening each year.
- Area plans are unsettled. The City's station-area plans for Millican-Ogden and Inglewood-Ramsay were drafted for the old route and have been paused or folded into broader local area plans, so zoning around future stations may still change.
- Check the distance yourself. Walking distance to a future station only helps if the station opens where it's planned. Ask us to map a building against the latest station sites.
