Three generations of condo communities

Most homes in Ogden were built before 1981. Riverbend, Douglasdale/Glen and McKenzie Lake went up mainly in the 1980s and 1990s, and no apartment units were counted in McKenzie Lake or Riverbend in the 2019 civic census or the 2021 census, so condos there are townhouses. Most homes in McKenzie Towne, Copperfield, Cranston, Auburn Bay, Mahogany and Seton were built after 2000.

Very few buildings here are five storeys or taller. McKenzie Towne has the largest supply, with about 1,500 apartment units and more than 1,000 townhouses in the 2019 and 2021 counts. Auburn Bay, Copperfield and Mahogany each had roughly 850 to 1,200 apartment units, and Cranston and Douglasdale/Glen had fewer. Seton is the most apartment-heavy: more than half of its homes counted in 2021 were apartments, and almost all its homes were built after 2015.

Green Line construction, MAX Teal and the main roads

There is no CTrain station in Southeast Calgary yet. Construction of the Green Line's SE Segment began in June 2025: 16 kilometres and 10 stations from Shepard, just north of 130 Avenue SE, to Event Centre/Grand Central Station in Victoria Park. Five of those stations serve this sector: Shepard, near Copperfield, New Brighton and McKenzie Towne, where the line's maintenance and storage facility is being built; Douglas Glen, near Douglasdale; Quarry Park; South Hill, near Riverbend; and Ogden. The City says a test track is needed so trains are ready for service in 2031, and Global News reported in September 2026 that phase 1 is set to open in 2031. Seton is not part of phase 1; Shepard is the south end.

Until then, MAX Teal buses run from Douglas Glen west to Heritage station, Rockyview General Hospital, Mount Royal University and Westbrook. Deerfoot Trail runs through the sector, and Stoney Trail, the 101-kilometre ring road, has been open all the way around the city since December 19, 2023.

Hospital and jobs

The South Health Campus hospital is in Seton, on Front Street SE just east of Deerfoot Trail at the Cranston Avenue/Seton Boulevard exit. Quarry Park, near Douglas Glen and Riverbend, is one of the largest employment areas along the Green Line route, with head offices for several large companies, and has a YMCA and the Quarry Park Library.

What to check before you buy here

Parts of Riverbend, Douglasdale and Quarry Park were under evacuation orders during the June 2013 flood. For any complex near the Bow River, look the address up on the City's flood mapping tool and the Province's flood hazard maps, and ask the condo corporation about past water damage and its insurance.

In Ogden's older buildings, read the reserve fund study and plan; Alberta requires a new study at least every five years. In newer buildings in Seton, Mahogany and other growing communities, Alberta's new home warranty covers the building envelope for five years and major structural parts for ten, so ask how much coverage is left. Green Line construction started at Shepard and is working north toward the Bow River, so check how it affects access near the future stations.
